#SCULPTURE

i created read: an anthology of chaos after a semester-long study of typography and printmaking. on the surface, every detail of printmaking is like a perfectly organized grid: the penciled-in lines of calligraphy practice, the upper and lower cases of moveable type, the kerning of each individual letter, the neat, equally spaced stitches binding the signatures together, etc. in contrast, the process is chaotic and messy – glue seeping from the sides of the cloth, tiny strips of uneven papers trying to trim the perfect page, the countless, crumpled pages of ideas discarded as not good enough, or simply just not quite right. using the medium itself, i wanted to portray the creative process hiding behind the perfection.
